BIOGRAPHY

Born
Western Australia

I have been a practising artist for more than thirty years, predominantly working in the field of printmaking. Over that period I have been part owner/director of the Bridge Gallery in Northbridge, lectured at the WA School of Art, Design and Media in Central TAFE, worked as Studio Manager in the fine art studio of WA Printmaker, Leon Pericles, lived in Hobart, Tasmania and sailed around Australia by yacht. During that time I have maintained my art practice, establishing access studios in the A-Shed, Fremantle, in the Salamanca Arts Centre in Hobart and in my home.

Currently, I work from my home studio. I run community printmaking workshops in many locations in WA and interstate, more recently at such diverse locations as Alice Springs, Mullewa, Perth, Pinjarra and at Windimurra Minesite camp east of Mt Magnet, WA.

I have participated in many school, community, art exchange and group exhibitions over the past 25 years, some years taking part in as many as nine local and interstate exhibitions.

In early 2012 I had specific works exhibited in Safe Keeping which was curated by the National Trust. This was part of heritage week in WA and honoured the inventiveness of people in the West who created, out of necessity, the Coolgardie Safe which was an innovative way of keeping food cold. Approximately 30 artists each sourced an old Coolgardie Safe and created artworks around that safe. These works along with the safes were exhibited at the restored Town Hall in Perth, WA.

Stiil Life/Our Life is a 5 year long exhibition organised from Kalbarri, WA, to commemorate 400 years since the first known visit to Australian shores by Europeans. In 2012 my work in the first exhibition for this project was a hand coloured etching/aquatint entitled ‘Collection’. Each year the project conducts different exhibitions which invite the community to participate.

In 2013 I was commissioned as one of the ten printmakers around Australia to create a fine art print edition for the Print Council of Australia. This is a great opportunity for artists to have their works seen and purchased by collectors around Australia. This has expanded the number of my works in public collections around Australia.

In January 2014 I completed a Public Art Commission for the new Wandina Primary School in Geraldton WA.

In April 2014 I will be travelling to Finland where I will be an Artist in Residence for a month, investigating the northern European flora as they emerge in spring from the icy grounds. While there I have been invited to hold a solo exhibition of my work and run a lino printing workshop.
